Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney Visits Firearms Industry's Trade Show

ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney toured the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show which is run by the firearm industry's trade association, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF).

Gov. Romney's tour of the SHOT Show underscores the continued importance of the sportsmen's and gun owners' vote in national elections. Sportsmen and gun owners have proven to be a vital and influential voting bloc in the past two presidential elections and in each of the congressional elections since 2000.

"Americans should have the right to own and possess firearms as guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution," said Governor Romney. "I'm proud to be among the many decent, law-abiding men and women who safely use firearms."

During his tour of the SHOT Show the governor stopped by the booths of several major firearms and ammunition manufacturers, including Smith & Wesson, Remington Arms, Sturm, Ruger and Winchester. As he walked the show floor Romney also stopped to speak with many industry attendees and exhibitors.

"As our industry's trade association the National Shooting Sports Foundation welcomes Gov. Romney's interest in learning more about a proud and responsible American industry and the wide variety of products that our members manufacture and lawfully sell to law-abiding Americans for hunting, recreational shooting and personal protection," said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel, who toured the show with the governor. "Our industry plays a vital role in protecting the Second Amendment and America's national security, both at home and abroad, by providing America's armed forces and federal, state and local law enforcement agencies with the tools they need to keep us safe and free."

The SHOT Show is the largest trade show of its kind in the world and 27th largest trade show in the United States. The SHOT Show is also among the fastest growing trade shows in America. More than 40,000 exhibitors and attendees from the trade from all 50 states and 75 foreign countries attend the show, which covers a record-setting 655,000 square feet of exhibit space. The show is not open to the general public. The SHOT Show generates approximately $50 million dollars of economic activity for the local economy in just four days.
