ROMNEY NOMINATES TRIO TO JUDICIARY

 

Governor Romney today nominated James L. LaMothe, Jr. of Palmer, Ernest L. Sarason, Jr. of Concord and Lawrence McCormick of Belmont to fill Associate Justice positions in the state’s court system.

 

Judge James L. LaMothe, Jr. was selected for the Peabody District Court. He has been a Senior Judge managing the Division of Dispute Resolution for the Department of Industrial Accidents in Boston since 2005 and was an Administrative Judge in Lawrence from 1992 to 2005. LaMothe was previously affiliated as a practicing attorney with the law firms of Nathanson & Goldberg in Boston from 1986 to 1992, the Law Office of Richard F. Kerr in Braintree from 1984 to 1986, and for Holtz and Gilman in Boston from 1983 to 1984. LaMothe is a graduate of Colgate University and of Boston College Law School.

 

Ernest L. Sarason, Jr. was selected for the Boston Municipal Court. He has worked in the Office of the Attorney General since 1987, where he has held various positions, including Managing Attorney of the Trial Division, Assistant Attorney General in the Trial Division of the Government Bureau and in the Public Protection Bureau, and as Chief of the Consumer Protection Division. Sarason previously held the position of Staff Attorney for the National Consumer Law Center, Inc. from 1975 to 1987 and served as the Deputy Director of the Center for over 3 years. Prior to these positions, Sarason was the Attorney in Charge from 1973 to 1975 and a Staff Attorney from 1971 to 1973 for the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland in Ohio, which represented clients in both criminal and civil cases. Sarason is a graduate of Yale University and the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

 

Lawrence E. McCormick was selected for the Boston Municipal Court. He has served as the General Counsel of the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources since 1997. McCormick was previously responsible for litigation support as an Of Counsel for Roche, Heifetz, Murphy & Wholley in Boston from 1996 to 1997. Prior to these positions, McCormick was an Assistant General Counsel for the Boston Gas Company in Boston from 1982 to 1995. He also served as an Associate for the Law Offices of Richard Blumsack in Somerville from 1980 to 1982, and as an Assistant District Attorney for the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office in Cambridge from 1978 to 1980. He is a former Public Defender for the Committee for Public Counsel Services in Boston from 1968 to 1978. McCormick is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, of Northeastern University, and of Boston College Law School.
