"Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, on Thursday became the first GOP candidate to announce he will participate in West Virginia's State Republican Convention.

"'The Romney for President campaign is proud to announce our intention to participate in the West Virginia State Republican Convention,' Carl Forti, the campaign's political director, announced in a press release. 'We are committed to the state and have been encouraged by the governor's energized and growing number of supporters.'

"In an effort to give the state more of a voice in selecting the national Republican candidate, West Virginia Republicans will hold a nominating convention Feb. 5 to elect 18 of the state's 30 delegates to the GOP national convention. All 18 will go to one candidate."

...

"'Our campaign has an organization, and a number of volunteers, who are working very hard to communicate Gov. Romney's message of conservative change,' Forti said in the release. 'His message of strengthening the American military, economy and family is resonating across the country, and it's time to bring that message to West Virginia. The Romney campaign looks forward to the state Republican convention in February.'"...
