Background
The LDS church sponsors more Boy Scout units than any other sponsoring group in the nation, and his church leaders have stated that they will drop their sponsorship if the Boy Scouts accept homosexuals as leaders.
Mitt Romney and Boy Scouts
Mitt Romney sits on the national executive board of the Boy Scouts of America, which has an exclusionary policy banning gay members.
"I have let my views be known," said Romney. "I have been to one board meeting now of the Boy Scouts of America board (as of 1994). I believe that the Boy Scouts of America does a wonderful service for this country. I support the right of the Boy Scouts of America to decide what it wants to do on that issue. I feel that all people should be allowed to participate in the Boy Scouts regardless of their sexual orientation."
Romney detractors like to point out that he is not worthy to be considered a republican because he is nice to gays. They were very angry that he invited them to participate in the 2002 winter Olympics. They see Romney as a hypocrite when he says that he does not support gay marriage, and then he treats gay people with respect. The people to the right of Romney, who think that he has done wrong, need to learn that you don’t have to hate those you disagree with. They do not realize that all major religions teach that you need to respect even those that you disagree with. Mitt Romney wants gay people to be happy. However he thinks marrage is primarily for children, and thinks children need influence of both mothers and fathers.
Extremist see non extremist as bad. However Mitt Romney is a principled moderate.
