John S ZiembaJohn S. ZiembaDirector, Department of Labor
Governor Mitt Romney appointed John Ziemba as the Director of Labor on May 13, 2005. He is responsible for overseeing the state agencies responsible for workers' compensation, occupational safety and Health, and labor relations.
Mr. Ziemba served in the Executive Office of Transportation for more than two years as undersecretary and, most recently, as the acting Secretary. In this assignment, he worked to develop the Governor's $31 billion, twenty-year transportation plan.
From 1991 until 2002, Mr. Ziemba held top staff positions in the Governor's Office, the Office of Housing and Community Development, and the Office of Consumer Affairs. While in the Governor's Office, Mr.Ziemba had oversight responsibility for the state's labor and workforce development agencies, in addition to the transportation, public safety, and consumer affairs and business regulation agencies and issues.
The Department of Labor includes the Department of Industrial Accidents, the Division of Occupational Safety and Health, the Labor Relations Commission, the Joint Labor-Management Committee, and the Board of Arbitration and Conciliation.
Mr. Ziemba graduated from Boston College Law School and is admitted to the Massachusetts Bar. He received his bachelor's degree from the College of the Holy Cross.
