"...Former Gov. Mitt Romney has assembled a team of Capitol Hill insiders - including a former Republican House speaker - to bolster his White House bid.

"Former Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.), who remains a key player on Capitol Hill, leads a newly formed group of Romney strategists with the New Hampshire primary less than a year away and the polls already buzzing."

"Rounding out Romney?s D.C.-based power circle are U.S. Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-Mich.), a member of the House Intelligence Committee who will serve as Romney?s top intelligence adviser, and U.S. Rep. Jim McCrery (R-La.), the GOP?s ranking member on the House Ways and Means Committee.

"Others who?ve joined Romney?s team include U.S. Rep. Tom Feeney (R-Fla.); U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.); and U.S. Rep. Joseph Knollenberg (R-Mich.)

"Blackburn is a leading social conservative in Congress who will specialize in reaching out to women, while Feeney is a top fiscal conservative who will act as a liaison on taxpayer protection issues. All will take an 'active role' in fund raising and advising, focusing on their areas of expertise, said Romney spokesman Kevin Madden.

"'It?s part of a very detailed approach to outreach,' Madden said. 'We?ve had a lot of people come on board. It?s brought a lot of momentum to our campaign and momentum breeds momentum.'"
