Reform

  1. We should only have caucuses.
  2. Republicans should use proportional representation.
  3. We should have one state at a time vote in national elections.
  4. We should have small states go first.
  5. We should have diverse states go first.
  6. Republicans should listen more to republicans in blue states.

Governor Mitt Romney and Reform

Fiscal Reform

Reforming the way the state works with businesses and providing incentives for employers will help preserve and create new jobs in Massachusetts. - Mitt Romney

  • "Don't worry about people stealing an idea. If it's original, you will have to ram it down their throats."
    • Howard Aiken

Quotes from Governor Mitt Romney on reform

2003

  • “It is time to quit tinkering around the edges with an organization that over the years has proven immune to serious reform.” Romney said. “Massachusetts taxpayers and the people who use our state recreational facilities deserve better. Under my plan, they will finally get the accountability and cost-efficiency we should all expect from those entrusted with the management of our public funds.”

  • “Eight hundred lawyers are far too many to be operating in one branch of state government. By streamlining and bringing our legal force under a single umbrella, we will be providing a more efficient service while saving taxpayers money.”

  • “Massachusetts is saddled with an 19th century court system in a 21st century economy.” Romney said. “These common sense improvements in the courts will save taxpayers millions of dollars without affecting the ability of the courts to administer justice.”

  • “The Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission office currently located on Middlesex Avenue will move to the Department of Transitional Assistance office located here at One Davis Square, saving taxpayers $108,000.” said Romney. “It's just plain common sense to join two agencies together rather than having two offices half empty.”

2004

  • “Innovative programs and cutting-edge technologies are being used today to protect our environment.” Governor Mitt Romney said. “Massachusetts will continue to be a national leader in environmental protection by utilizing these new tools to target environmental scofflaws.”

  • He added, “We started down the road to reform last year. This is no time to take our foot off the gas pedal. The people who elected us deserve the best government we can give them. The people of Massachusetts must come first.”

  • “This honor highlights the types of reforms and efficiencies we have put in place at the state level to professionalize human resources practices.” said Governor Mitt Romney. “By creating a work environment that rewards job performance and attracts talented employees, Ruth has been instrumental in helping to change the culture on Beacon Hill.”

Examples of Mitt Romney's reform:

  • A dramatic turnaround in the reduction of disciplinary case backlogs at the Division of Professional Licensure (DPL) was highlighted today by Governor Mitt Romney as an example of what a more efficient state government can deliver for the people of Massachusetts. When Romney took office, the DPL faced serious operational deficiencies that contributed to extensive complaint and disciplinary backlogs. The average age of open disciplinary cases was well over two years at a time when newly filed complaints were rising annually. Today, the average length of time it takes for the DPL to resolve a case has declined by almost 70 percent, falling from 840 to 262 days. The number of case resolutions has increased from 1440 in Fiscal Year 2002 to 2306 in Fiscal Year 2004, substantially reducing the pre-existing case backlog. The DPL is also handling more work, with the number of new cases filed increasing 90 percent in the last two years, from 1348 in Fiscal Year 2002 to 2567 in Fiscal Year 2004.

  • The Romney Administration’s Chief Human Resources Officer, Ruth Bramson, received top honors at the 14th annual 2005 Better Government Competition sponsored by the Pioneer Institute, a non-partisan think tank.

  • This is not the first time that the number of lawyers in government has vexed the state's chief executive. In the 1890's, then-Massachusetts Governor Frederic Greenhalge bemoaned the fact that Massachusetts spent nearly $50,000 on lawyers under the Governor's control. Today, Massachusetts spends more than $50 million. After calling for reforms, Greenhalge eventually died in office from the strain of the job. Romney said the administration would be working to advance reforms in a broad range of areas with the filing of the budget for Fiscal Year 2004, which begins July 1. “This package of legal reforms is only a small sliver of the kind of changes we will be proposing to apply across the board in our budget.” said Romney.

Mitt Romney is the best "reform" candidate.

Reasons to agree:

  • He gave himself more budget powers, so that he could save the budget.
  • He sopped printing the budget, and put it online, saving thousands of dollars.
  • He saved more than a million dollars laying off press secretaries.
  • He reformed the health care industry.
  • Romney is willing to think outside the box.
  • Romney re-organized departments all the time. He streamlined judicial appointments, reorganized HHS...
  • “There are critical investments we can and should make in our children.” Romney said. “But those investments will only be made possible if we continue down the road to reform. I hope you will join with me in working for change.” Romney said of the need to modify the way school buildings were built in Mass.

Can someone help me?

I would like to turn "reform" into a cubcatigory on the Governor Mitt Romney Wikipedia sight. What do you think?
