"A diverse group of South Carolinians have been tapped by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney to serve on a faith and values steering committee for his presidential campaign.

"This is the second time in less than a week that a Republican presidential candidate has added South Carolinians to a political cause aimed at bringing out voters by touting religion."

...

"Romney's campaign states that its 'National Faith and Values Steering Committee' will serve as a grass-roots effort to advise the candidate on moral issues. All of the people on the committee had asked if this was a way for them to help on the campaign."

...

"On Wednesday, Romney named developer Jim Anthony, political activist Dee Benedict, Greenville pastor Mark White and Midlands homeless advocate Jimmy Jones as vice chairs for his committee.

"Anthony is the man behind the high-end residential Cliffs Communities that dot the mountains of the Upstate, and is one of Romney's finance co-chairs in South Carolina. Benedict is a long-time political and Christian activist in the state, and recently helped coordinate a large Scottish games festival in Greenville. She also hosted Romney at her home during a tour of the state last fall. Jones is the director of Christ Central Ministries, which is a major homeless advocate in the Columbia area. White has been the senior pastor at Christian Assembly of God in Greenville since 1979."
