Romney Says He'll Lead With ValuesRomney Says He'll Lead With ValuesBy: Charles J. DeanBirmingham News
Saturday, Feb 10, 2007
"Invoking the memory of Ronald Reagan, GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney told Alabama Republican party leaders Friday that Washington is broken and he's the man to fix it.
"Speaking to state party executive committee members, Romney attacked liberals on a broad front. He said he will lead the country toward values supported by everyday Americans such as fiscal responsibility, better schools, and marriage between a man and a woman.
"'I'm not pleased with the fact we keep spending so much money' Romney said. 'I'm not pleased with the fact that we are using too much oil. I'm not pleased that our schools are not up to international standards. Seems to me that Washington is broken.'"
...
"'Ronald Reagan trusted the American people,' Romney said, invoking the former president. 'He kept taxes down, kept the cost of business down and gave hope to the American people.'"
...
"Romney appeared with his wife. Standing next to her husband before a hundred Republicans, Ann Romney joked: 'It's amazing to be in a room with this many Republicans. In our state I don't think we have this many Republicans.'"
