Sep 26 2007Granger Endorses Romney and Will Co-Chair Women for MittBy: Todd J. Gillman Dallas Morning News Wednesday, Sep 26, 2007
"Fort Worth Rep. Kay Granger endorsed Mitt Romney for president Tuesday and will help lead his outreach to female voters.
"'When you put all the attributes together, Mitt Romney is the one I really think can serve us well, and really has a global perspective,' said Ms. Granger, who is vice chairwoman of the Republican Conference, making her the top-ranking Republican woman in the House.
"Mr. Romney said in a written statement that Ms. Granger 'will be a powerful surrogate for our message.'"
...
"Ms. Granger said she'd met with and considered Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson before going with Mr. Romney. She's known Mr. Giuliani since her days as mayor of Fort Worth and his as mayor of New York City and praised him Tuesday for the strides he made against crime in that city.
"But after seeing Mr. Romney speak with Fort Worth business leaders a few weeks ago, she decided to sign on. She said he has a commanding presence and a strong message – first and foremost, fight jihadists, then focus on education and the economy.
"'I agreed with everything he said, in the order he said it,' she said.
"As national co-chair of the Women for Mitt coalition, she'll fill the role that had been filled by Jennifer Dunn, a friend and former congresswoman from Washington state who died of an aneurysm three weeks ago."
Romney Draws Crowd at L.B. Campaign StopBy: Kristopher Hanson Long Beach Press-Telegram Wednesday, Sep 26, 2007
"In town Wednesday for a fundraiser and rally, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney proclaimed the GOP would 'knock out' Democrats in the 2008 race for the White House.
"The comment came during a campaign stop at Long Beach Airport and followed a fundraiser at the nearby home of John Molina, chief financial officer at one of the nation's fastest-growing HMOs, Molina Healthcare.
"Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who is locked in a tight race for the GOP nomination, met with about 150 supporters in a private airplane hangar at 2801 E. Spring St.
"'The Democrats are looking strong right now, but they're overplaying their hand,' Romney said. 'We're gonna knock 'em out, don't you worry.'"
...
"Romney's appearance marks the first visit by a leading presidential candidate to Long Beach, whose voters have leaned heavily Democratic for many years."
...
"On international trade, Romney said the U.S. needed to push for China to crack down on counterfeiting and piracy.
"'We invent something here or make a movie or a soundtrack here and then have (Chinese) steal it and sell it,' he said. 'We're going to have to be much more aggressive and certainly protect our intellectual property rights.'
"The whistle-stop drew supporters from around the region, including Torrance residents Colleen Miller and Beverly Bench.
"'I think he has a very good chance to win because he's an ethical, honorable man, and that's what this country needs,' Miller said." ...
