Mitt Romney should apeal to social conservatives.
Reasons to agree:
- Conservatives want a candidate who has a good chance of winning. Mitt does have a good chance.
- Mitt Romney is a good moderate. Click on the link to be presuaded that there is such thing as a good moderate.
- Mitt Romney is a good communicator. After George Bush, conservatives should want someone who not only believes the right things, but is great at sharing them.
- Mitt Romney is strong on national defense, which might be the most important conservative issue.
- Mitt Romney can help reform education, which I think is our most important issue. Mitt is one of the few politicians to stand up to the teachers union and live to tell about it.
- Mitt Romney is committed to making America more competitive. Conservatives don't want American to become France of the 21st Century.
- Mitt Romney is accomplished. Conservatives like a winner.
- Mitt Romney is a good business manager, more than he is a politician. The government should be more like a business, and less political.
- Mitt Romney is smart, which conservatives should like.
- Mitt Romney is practical, which not all conservatives want. They think that it is more important to make your enemies look bad, than to get anything done. They are anti-poverty programs partly because they know they don't work, but partly because they don't want the poor to succeed.
- Mitt Romney has had enough experience to know how to get things done, but has not been in politics so long that it has corrupted him.
- Mitt's father was a good role model.
- John McCain is too old.
- Mitt Romney is ethical. He might not pass all of the conservatives litmas test, but who does? The only person who met all of those requirments was the guy who ran against Barak Obama, and he got like 2% of the vote! Whatever else people say about Romney, he is ethical. He keeps his promices.
- Mitt Romney is pro choice in the sense that he wants each state to make the choice, not old people in robes.
- Mitt Romney is earnest.
- It was good of him to sign the health insurance package.
- The governorship of Massachusetts isn't a natural launching pad for a Republican presidential run. But Romney has shrewdly leveraged his position there into an ongoing social-conservative credential. He has been in fights with liberals on every social issue imaginable — gay marriage, cloning, abstinence education, emergency contraception, gay adoption. At times, it's almost been as if the conservative capital of America has been in that tiny slice of Boston occupied by Romney's office.
- He has stood up against the Dems on their requirement that all pharmacies provide the morning after pill.
- He has limited the damage of the MA courts gay marriage debacle by having clerks enforce an obscure law that people from out of state cannot get married in MA if their marriage wouldn't be legal in their own state.
- He reducaed bi-lengual education and added english emersion, and refused to allow illegals to attend state colleges with instate tuition.
Reasons to disagree:
- Mitt Romney can claim to be a moderate when it suits him.
