Romney has said that his views on abortion have "evolved" and "changed" since 2002 such that he now considers himself a "pro-life governor" who wishes "the laws of our nation could reflect that view." Some people do not think someone in their 40's or 50's can change their mind on Abortion. They see his change as being two faced or opportunistic.
Reasons to disagree:
- Romney has always said that he is pro-life. When he has defended it, the context has always been that Massachusetts has the right to make it's own decisions. Mitt Romney is a believer that states should deside for themselves. When Governor Mitt Romney stated that abortions should be safe for those who have them performed, he was stating the obvious from personal experience. He had a family member die from a back alley abortion. If Massachusetts is going to allow abortions, they should be safe and regulated. Coat hangers should not be used. It is better that just a baby die, than that a mother and baby should die. We can all acknowledge the arguments of those who disagree with them. Mitt Romney has always claimed to be pro-choice, even when he said that he hoped abortions in Massachusetts would be safe for the mother. Those who say he has flip-flped are participating in gotcha-politics and taking his words out of context.
