Promoting Quality Arguments with an Algorithm Inspired by Google

We should develop an algorithm that evaluates and promotes high-quality arguments, similar to how Google identifies and ranks quality websites.

Reasons to Agree:

• Leverage Links for Organization:
• Google organizes the internet by analyzing links between websites. Sites with many incoming links are given more "weight" in search rankings. Furthermore, these high-weight sites carry greater influence when linking to other websites.
• Similarly, we could create a system that promotes ideas based on the number and strength of reasons supporting (links) or opposing (counter-links) them.
• Weighted Influence for Stronger Arguments:
• Just as Google assigns more weight to well-linked pages, arguments with numerous strong supporting reasons would carry more weight in this system.
• Supporting reasons themselves would also be weighted based on their own credibility and strength, allowing the system to propagate quality through the network of arguments.
• Structured Evaluation:
• By organizing reasons to agree and disagree into separate columns, the algorithm could systematically assign points to the main idea. The score would depend on:
• The number of reasons supporting the idea.
• The strength and relevance of those reasons.
• The number and quality of opposing reasons.
• Encouraging Better Debate:
• Structured debates with well-organized reasons would foster logical discussions.
• Promoting logical and well-supported arguments would encourage better decision-making and more effective conflict resolution.
