I would like to hear what you guys think. Send me your comments and I will add them here.

Mormons should sit on the side lines of an effort by Governor Mitt Romney to lead the country.

Reasons to agree

  1. If Mormons want other to be willing to vote for someone outside of their faith, like Romney, then they should avoid the appearance of supporting Mitt Romney, just because he is a Mormon. After all, if Mormons can support Romney, because he is a Mormon, then it can’t be wrong for non-Mormons to appose Romney because he is a Mormon. Turn around is fair play.
  2. We should keep religion out of politics. Mormons should not support Mormons. Baptist should not support Baptist, and Jews should not support Jews. Whites should not vote for whites, and blacks should not vote for blacks. This would be a good way to ensure that people are voting on issues, not by group.
  3. Governor Huntman (from Utah, and a Mormon) set a good example by backing John McCain.

Reasons to disagree

  1. Is it so difficult to believe that I would am not supporting him because he is a Mormon? I would never support Orin Hatch or Harry Read as president. Isn’t this proof that I am not supporting Romney just because he is a Mormon? If you are saying that I would vote for anyone who is a Mormon, than you are saying that I would support these individuals, and I wouldn’t in a million years support them.
  2. Mormons don’t have very many choices of who they are going to support for republican president in 2008. They honestly would support a good Jew or Baptist, but all they are going to have is someone from our faith, Mitt Romney, or John McCain. Some Mormons would rather leave the church than vote for McCain. So sue us if they support Romney, but they don’t have a lot of options as this point.
  3. What is so wrong with Mormons getting excited about a fellow Mormon having a chance at the presidency? They have fought and died for America? There have been 43 presidents of the United States. Mormons will probably never get another chance. Why can’t they have their chance?
  4. You can say that Mormons should sit out of the election, but if Utah gone for Gore, he would have won. Mormons deserve some Republican payback.
  5. Catholics supported JFK. Baptist support Baptist. Turn around is fair play.
