Punditry (debate and commentary) is more important than Activism.
Reasons to agree
- Punditry (debate) is concerned what is right. Activism is concerned with winning. It is more important to be concerned that you are on the right side, than it is to ensure that your side wins.
- Making reasoned arguments brings people to your side. Activism may show your strength, but it brings no one to your side.
- Activism is shallow, no matter what. Punditry has the potential of depth. Efficient activism, in its purest form, is a political machine that ensures it gets votes. Punditry in its most efficient form, lays out a compelling argument.
- Activism is everything that is wrong with politics.
- A good politician shouldn’t need any activist from others, just the power of his own arguments.
- If you want to take part in politics, why would you choose the fluffy stuff of activism (bumper stickers and raising money) when you could spend your effort putting truth into your own words?
